Audible, one of the most famous audiobook players in the market today, has seen downloads of about 4 billion hours of content just in 2019 alone. Being the leader in a number of audiobook selections, we’ve seen it upgrade its product from a simple portable media player in 1998 to an advanced streaming app called Audible Air in 2005.

With its continued growth, Amazon, one of the largest technology-based companies in the U.S. has bought the company for $300 million.

We also saw it merge with Apple when it became the sole provider of audiobooks in the iTunes store. As we see this company merging with other big American companies, could we see an Audible-Google integration with the Google home app? Or could we even see playing Audible on Google Home on an iPhone?

We’ll be exploring this in detail in the following sections, but for now, as we see it, this looks to be a superficial process not entirely hardwired into the system.

Part 1. Can Google Home Play Audible?

Google Home can stream different media formats and audiobooks are one of them. They have their own audiobook division which is the Google Play Books. As people may play audiobooks from different sources, can Google Home play Audible?

We’ve checked this and this seems not possible for now. Although we see Google Home merge music subscription providers such as Spotify and Apple Music, we haven’t seen this yet with Audible.

They seem to prioritize their Google Play Books function over the Google Home app to be able to stream audiobooks to different devices. You’ll see though that Google Play Books stream through Google Home by voice commands flawlessly and this deserves much appreciation from their subscribers.

So how do you integrate another audiobook provider under an established platform with its own audiobook subsidiary? It’s by business-to-business agreement. Audible and Google must make ends meet by allowing each other to use their services. Businesses have their own resources, but eventually, they’ll have to open up for seamless integration.

Besides, it is through this process that companies are now achieving more earnings. Keeping your technology to yourself has had its days in the past. Now it is through sharing and open-sourcing that we see businesses thrive.
