Media streaming is not a new network protocol. It dates back to 2003 when Intel introduced DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) along with Sony and Microsoft. Through this standard, several companies were able to stream their media on a network through a universal standard. After this came out, multimedia hobbyists’ expectations of the future of digital living soared high. Year by year, new technology came about and DLNA was utilized even further.

When Apple and Google created their own streaming service for their mobile devices, they essentially still piggy-backed on DLNA technology. Seeing this, it’s really a matter of corporate brand ownership. So will we be seeing playing Apple Music on Google Home in the future? Actually, it already is, but not in all territories. It’s available only in the US, UK, Japan, Germany, and France. Read along the rest of the article to find simple ways around this hurdle if you’re not included in the list. A third-party tool will also be discussed to overcome this hurdle

Part 1. Will Google Home Ever Support Apple Music?

Two competing standards from different companies will have a hard time supporting each other. It would take a large push from consumers to make this happen. Also, each company has allocated a lot of R&D and money to create their streaming standard so it may take time to gain enough profit for them to say their standard has served its purpose.

And so we’ll be able to play Apple Music on Google Home? It actually is happening already (in limited territories). Facebook and Instagram integration has already been happening. Cross-posting and messaging have also become a trend. These companies are realizing that it is the consumers that they should cater to and not divide them with their brands. It will be a win-win situation and everyone will be happy. Accessing songs from Apple Music should not hinder playing them on Google Home. And so we’ll be waiting for a larger push from the consumer market for this to be available all to us.

In the meantime, we’ll suggest a third-party tool that can already do this. This tool should do away with the restrictions of DRM that prevent access to all of the streaming networks available. By incorporating this in your music streaming process you’ll advance all efforts for these two companies to unite altogether.
