As Apple technology invades our homes, so does Google. It is estimated that there were at least 2.5 billion Android devices (with Google Play installed) in 2019 alone and this estimate grows yearly. The ability to integrate between multimedia devices now becomes a major factor in choosing your favorite brand. iTunes, Apple’s media library keeper on the PC is no exception to this.

When Chromecast-ready devices came out, iTunes seemed not ready to directly stream media to it. So people ask, are there iTunes to Chromecast streamers? Or better yet is it possible to play iTunes music on Chromecast?

These are questions we are ready to answer in this article. We’ll discuss ways to indirectly stream iTunes music to Chromecast using a popular third party tool. We’ll also be dealing with hardware that Google made where Chromecast integration is enabled.

As it is a future trend where all devices will be communicating with each other, let’s find simple ways to do it now.

Part 1. Can You Play iTunes on Chromecast?

As we check this is still impossible. The reason is that Apple has its own standard of streaming music and it’s called AirPlay. AirPlay much like Chromecast is a multimedia streaming protocol where one can play his or her media with a multitude of multimedia devices under a Wi-Fi network.

And so unless these two standards meet, they will not be compatible with each other. To play iTunes music on Chromecast is like playing the Uncharted games on an Xbox One. It will never work (for now).

There could be a possibility in the future where these two standards could meet, but more likely in a higher level network layer with a more standard protocol. Though Siri and Google seem to have started some kind of arrangement when it comes to home automation commands, work is still required to make the two ends meet.

Two huge companies battling for profit sometimes make it harder to make something standardized as each had its own share of research, development, and cost to produce the tech. Only time can tell if this is likely to happen.

In the meantime, we’ll introduce a smart and simple way to play iTunes on Chromecast through a third-party tool.

Part 2. How to Play iTunes Music on Chromecast?

Method 1. Transfer iTunes Music to Google Play Music and Stream it on Chromecast

Google Play Music (now YouTube Music) can get its music source on the available audio files of your android phone. By using a third-party tool to convert your iTunes music, and then transferring them to your Google Play Music, you’ll be able to stream this to Chromecast. But wait, there is more to it. YouTube Music actually disallows device files from using Chromecast on their portable devices, so we’ll keep this in mind. See below the steps to play iTunes music on Chromecast.

  1. Download and install the TunesFun Apple Music Converter. See the links below:

  1. Once finished going to the Finished Tab. Click View Output File to go to the output directory.

6. Open your Google Chrome browser and be sure you are signed in to your Google account. Now go to your Google Play Music app (YouTube Music). If you haven’t downloaded this go to the Google Play Music Web player (YouTube Music Player) on the web.

  1. Now transfer the songs from your TunesFun output directory to your library songs folder in your Google Play Music app.

8. You must download the Google Home app too if you haven’t installed it already.

  1. Setup the apps appropriately using your Google account. Also, set up your Google Chromecast-enabled devices if you have one.
  1. After setting up go to the Google Home App->Press Media under Manage your system press Music.
  1. Choose Google Play Music (YouTube Music) as the default music provider to play music.
  1. Go to the Google Play Music Music App->Go to Library->Songs->Uploads
  1. Play the song you have converted in TunesFun. Notice there is a casting option above. If you chose device files you cannot do this because YouTube Music has put restrictions on device file casting.
  1. Choose the device you want to cast to. You should now be able to hear your song from Google Play Music to your casted device.

Method 2. Stream iTunes Music to Chromecast Audio

Chromecast Audio is physical hardware that Google built. It has a 3.5mm stereo jack that connects to the auxiliary port of your sound system with speakers. It has built-in wifi and a power cable. Its main purpose is to cast any audio from your device (i.e. Android Phone) to the auxiliary input of your audio system. Here we will discuss steps on how to set up Chromecast audio and then play iTunes music on Chromecast Audio.

  1. Plugin your Chromecast audio to your auxiliary input and also put in power.
  1. In your Google Home App, it should find it automatically. Follow the setup process to connect and test it to your Wi-Fi network.
  1. You are now ready to convert files from iTunes into your Google Play Music account and play them in Google Play Music. Follow steps 1 to 13 of Method 1.
  1. Choose your Chromecast audio device to start casting. You should now be able to hear songs playing from YouTube Music to your casted device.

Part 3. Summary

To play iTunes Music on Chromecast easily it is best to use a third-party tool. Because Google and Apple have not yet agreed on a joint standard, it will be impossible for now to directly cast iTunes music to a Chromecast-ready device.

We’ve introduced the TunesFun Apple Music Converter to indirectly stream your iTunes library to a Chromecast device by song conversion and file transfer. Hope this has helped you find a solution to this problem.
